Everything but… Recent Illustrations

January 3, 2010

Hey Everyone,

Just thought I’d share a few of finished illustrations I did for Caitlin’s class in the fall. Looking forward to people’s feedback, and especially to getting to see everybody again in 2010. Happy New Year! Let’s make it a creative and productive one!

“Light is like Water” – Illustration for short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez:

oh sweet! I love the “Light is Like Water” illustration. The perspective/composition is really neat on that one…it’s so hard to create convincing space in an illustration (ha! that’s why my backgrounds are usually just a flat color), but you totally nailed it. You know, the color works really great as is, but I wonder what would happen if you messed with it in photoshop. Maybe give it an orange tint…to get closer to the “light” metaphor/fantasy/weirdness…or just something other than blue/green, which is easily interpreted as just water.

This looks great! The Light is Like Water illustration reminds me of the Yuko Shimizu illustration with the underside of the boat (was it Yuko or someone else?) that I really like. Anyway, your new work looks really nice. I am really enjoying the colors.

Thanks you guys! I think the LIght is Like Water illustration was definitely one of the more successful things I did in Caitlin’s class. As far as the blue light goes, I have done a bit of color experimentation in photoshop, but so far haven’t found the yellow/warmer hues to work as successfully. I do plan to keep working with it though. As far as the Yuko illustration goes, I’m not sure I know which one you’re referring to, but i’ll definitely keep a eye out for it. Thanks again, and I’m looking forward to seeing more recent work from everybody!

Greetings, I would love to feature this painting on my art blog varietyinblack.tumblr.com. It features works depicting african americans. I want to give the proper credit but the painters name is not listed. If you could provide this info to me it would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I’ll simply list it as “paintedgrass”
